mtvU’s “Quiet Campus” : Only 4:37 minutes long…

In past week, we get plenty of press notification about MTV’s reality show on Gallaudet University. I was intrigued.

This morning, I found out this show is aired only among the college campuses. Not available to the public. I cannot DVR/record it.

Came home recently, and visited the mtvU’s website:

Alas, there is the first episode of this show! “Quiet Campus: Episode 1” – I quickly watched it.

It was only…

4 minutes and 37 seconds long.

Is that all?

Was it supposed to be a 30 minute show? Or?

That was a terrible ‘tease’ for all of us.

All of the hoopla with PR marketing about mtvU’s Quiet Campus on Gallaudet University, which lasted only four and a half frigging minutes long?

Oh please. As a Gallaudet Alumni, I rather to have millions of dollars given to Gallaudet just like NTID and CSUN.

Not just a measly 4 and a half minutes long of fame. THAT is even worse than the 15 minutes of fame!

Unfortunately it is true that most of the time, the deaf world has been largely ignored by the majority on this world. Not surprised to see this.

  2. Don G. Says:

I was surprised at the length myself. It’s supposed to be a series, I think, but even so…..
They couldn’t go 15 minutes even? Or is this current generation’s attention span THAT short?

  3. Jean Boutcher Says:

    Agreed. It is disappointing.

  4. Karen Mayes Says:

Hm… is this series following 4 students all the way, not including more students from different backgrounds (like culturally Deaf kids)? You are right, the MTVU should show a little more variety.

Anyway, my son who’s 14 watched it with me and he got a “good feeling” about this video, considering he’s seriously considering going to MSSD in the near future.

You can easily look at the times for other videos, if you’re interested.

Quite a few seem to be between 5 and 10 minutes. I don’t think we’re discriminated against in that area.

You could rephrase your message and say “This is great! I want more!” and email that to MTVU. Might make them create longer videos.

I’m thrilled MTVu is putting something out into the mainstream. The video released is a ‘teaser’, as you put it. They accomplished their goal in leaving the viewer wanting more and to keep them tuned in to future episodes. I say… great work MTVu. Looking forward to future episodes.

Yes, it was short, but I thought it was interesting. Would like to see more! I am glad mtvU is putting this out into the mainstream. I agree with Joseph and echo.
